Carnival

Would you like to be part of a new team taking a strategic and operational lead on organising Huddersfield Carnival? HACCT – a registered Charity has taken the decision to establish a new Huddersfield Caribbean Carnival Executive Planning group whose remit would be to take full responsibility for the delivery of Huddersfield Carnival. The current group of 4 trustees do not have the capacity (time, skills gaps) therefore Carnival 2019 will not happen. The existing Trustees will focus on securing a community building which will support community activities. We would like to appoint a new (volunteer) strategic leader and operational team interested developing a new model towards Carnival 2020 and beyond. The roles will involve applying for funding, generating sponsorship and sales income, events management, community engagement and developing carnival arts and heritage. Are you creative and business minded? Do you have skills in finance, marketing, bid writing, Health and Safety including safeguarding vulnerable young people and adults? If you don’t feel you have skills in a specific area but would like to dedicate quality time to complete delegated tasks and/or develop ideas we would be interested in hearing from you. Please complete the form using the link below by 23rd November 2018. https://hacct.wufoo.com/forms/pj2rxpk0x9roqz/

In 2018 Working in Partnership with Hopeful Families

Huddersfield Carnival – 13th and 14th JULY 2018

Huddersfield Carnival working in partnership with the Hopeful Families project Huddersfield African Caribbean Cultural Trust (HACCT), responsible for organising Huddersfield Carnival, is working with the Hopeful Families project to celebrate 70 years of the arrival of the Windrush Generation across the UK but in particular those who contributed to the development of the infrastructure, economy and cultural diversity across Kirklees. Huddersfield Carnival draws its inspiration from the Caribbean and provides a medium through which local communities come together, participate and enjoy the display of local talents in costume design, music, dance and drama. The Carnival is celebrated over two days, with the Midnight Glow Parade, on Friday/Saturday 13th July where revellers dance in the streets celebrating freedom, friendship and the opening of carnival day parading through the town centre starting in Market Place. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Saturday, 14th July, the Carnival Mas Band Parade takes place, commencing from the Hudawi Centre at 1pm and winding its way through the streets of Huddersfield.  Costumed Bands will display an array of costumes and will parade through the town centre finishing at the Hudawi Centre where each costume mas band will have the opportunity to take to the stage outside one more time and where winners will be announced for best local, best individual masquerader on the road. A small fair ground will also be available to provide entertainment for children and young people. Join in and soak up steel band performances and DJ music. Our local Jamasize instructor will be there to get you fit and ready before the parade arrives in town. Funded by European Social and Investment Fund and the Big Lottery, the Hopeful Families project delivered by the Yorkshire Children’s Centre aims to work with families to address the major barriers to gaining and sustaining employment through early intervention and family mentoring support. Come along and talk to one of the Family Mentors and find out how the team can support you towards success. Its going to be the biggest Caribbean Carnival Music Street Festival in our Premier Town.
